Astronomical Haiku

The moon and planets
Glistening above my head
In near conjunction

Bus Haiku

Walk briskly from work
220 from Cleckheaton
It is always late

Thanks, everyone

Just a note to say thank you to those who’ve followed, liked, linked to and commented on my haiku (haikus..?) this week. It’s much appreciated and has given me confidence to keep going with them as the week has progressed.

I’ve been writing them about things I’ve seen during the day. The first one was about a cloud formation I saw out of the window at work knowing that I’d be able to take some great photos of it if I went out walking the hills. The second about a the last leaf flapping on a tree branch I saw by my car. The third was about the sunrise as I was scraping the melting ice from my car. The forth was about the factory on the hill that I can see from my desk at work. Finally the fifth was about a lone bird on the telegraph wire that connects my house and the pole outside, which I spooted as I got into my car on this windy day.

I’m no writer, never claimed to be and am certainly not a poet (I don’t read books and I could probably name only 5 poets and quote no poems in their entirety), but I’ve been playing with haiku for a few months now, on and off. I’ve been making them in my head in quiet moments about things I see for years without ever writing them down. I told someone that I make these things up in my head and they think I’m mad! Probably best for me to keep it on the internet where madness goes into the pool a little more discreetly!

In that spirit, here are a few others that haven’t been written specifically for this challenge, in case you want something to read:

Late evening sunshine
Watching the glistening fields
As shadows fall long

Crumbling dry stone wall
A swallow swoops overhead
Late summertime bliss

Walking happily
A sudden crunch underfoot
The landmine of guilt

Again, many thanks for the reads, visits, likes, comments. For those new followers, I will try to contribute more haiku(s) when I think of them but this blog will return to, mainly, me moaning about football, motor sport and the media. Sorry about that!
